When Dylan Penn was getting ready to shoot her first film role — for the new horror flick “Condemned” — she was so nervous she didn’t sleep the night before. She’d never been in front of a movie camera, after all. But she consoled herself with one big advantage. “I thought, ‘I’ve been growing up on sets — I’m gonna feel so comfortable,’” Dylan tells Alexa. “And then I got there and I was like: ‘Wait.’”
The actress, 24, didn’t grow up on just any sets, mind you. Her parents are Oscar winner Sean Penn and Golden Globe winner Robin Wright, two of the most respected actors working today. (They divorced in 2010, after 20-plus years of marriage.) But they purposely raised her and her brother, Hopper, 22, in Marin County, Calif. — some 400 miles north of LA — to give their kids a quieter, less Hollywood life. It worked. “I was kind of a loner,” Dylan notes of her childhood — but she says it in a steady, deep voice that reveals her casual self-assurance.
More recently, her social life has included the hot-young-bloodsucking set. She’s rumored to have dated “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson as well as “Vampire Diaries” star Steven R. McQueen. She still sees McQueen “once in a while,” she says. “He’s just like the sweetest guy.” Pattinson, though, “I rarely see because he works so much . . . But once in a while in LA I guess.” Right now, she’s a couple of months into seeing a guy friend of hers — who is not, incidentally, an actor.
